Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer RIPPER OWENS Interviewed For 'Metal, Rock, And Jazz' Book
May 19, 2006Former JUDAS PRIEST and current ICED EARTH/BEYOND FEAR frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens was recently interviewed for the book "Metal, Rock, and Jazz", written by Harris M. Berger. Owens and other performers share their own experiences of the music, thereby challenging traditional notions of harmony and musical structure. Using ideas from practice theory and phenomenology, Berger shows that musical perception is a kind of practice, both creatively achieved by the listener and profoundly informed by social context.

BEYOND FEAR's self-titled debut album sold just over 1,000 (one thousand) copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD was recorded at the legendary Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, under the direction of producer Jim Morris. The album consists of 12 haunting metal numbers, which, according to Owens, "show unmistakably where my musical roots lie: in the classic heavy metal of the Eighties. However, I've transported that traditional metal style into the present, lending it its own touch."
BEYOND FEAR is the new Ohio-based band featuring Owens alongside guitarist John Comprix (SPAWN, 13 FACES),Dennis Hayes (ex-WINTERS BANE, SEVEN WITCHES) on bass, Dwane Bihary (MISSING SKIN) on rhythm guitar, and drummer Eric Elkins (CRYPTKICKER, ALL YOU FEAR). The band recently completed a European tour as the opening act for ANTHRAX.
